Green Energy Foundation Inspires Young Minds for a Sustainable Future

The Engr. Chief Chukwuemeka Chukwurah Green Energy Foundation (ECCCGEF) has made significant strides in fostering environmental consciousness, ideals and love of renewable energy and climate change awareness among Nigeria’s youth.

The Foundation organised a technical enlightenment lecture for Senior Secondary students of the Government Model Technical College, Asaba, on Friday, July 12 2024 to underscored the foundation’s commitment to cultivating a new generation of green energy advocates.

The event was organised in collaboration with Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba

Centered around the theme “Understanding the Role of Renewable Energy in Combating Climate Change,” the event aimed to demystify the complex issue of climate change and inspire students to become active participants in its solution.

In his welcome address on the occasion, the Founder and President of ECCCGEF, Engr. Sir Chris C. Chukwurah, noted that renewable energy is now in focus because of the goals towards reducing greenhouse gases in the environment and provide an alternative source of power to houses, businesses and vehicles.

He highlighted the urgent need to transition from fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources and emphasized the pivotal role renewable energy plays in mitigating global warming and its devastating consequences.

Chief Chukwurah stressed the need to train young Engineers, Technologists and Technicians for job opportunities in the green economy, especially in fields of renewable energy.

He said the Foundation would strive to arrive swiftly at the point of trading the carbon credits/offtakes accumulated through its fervent advocacies, enlightenment and continued practical actions.

Also speaking at the event as the Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Prof. Christopher Ezeagwu, a renowned expert in electronic and computer engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, underscored the critical importance of mathematics for a successful career in renewable Energy Engineering and Technology.

He pledged his commitment to mentoring final-year students of of the Model Technical College in the subject to assist them in the actualization of that dream.

Delivering a lecture on Understanding The Role of Renewable Energy in Combating Climate Change, Engr. Stanley Dibigbo identified climate change as one of the most pressing challenges facing humanity, with the burning of fossil fuels to produce energy as a major contributor to global warming and its associated effects.

Engr. Dibigbo said to mitigate the effects of climate change required a shift to renewable energy sources, and specifically studying different types of renewable energy and their roles in combating climate change.

Dibigbo commended the Green Energy Foundation in raising awareness on climate change. Saying that the effort is crucial to changing people’s behavior and inspiring collective action, adding that education programmes could help people to understand the factors that contribute to climate change, its effects and alternative solutions.

To symbolize their commitment to a greener future, the event culminated in a tree-planting ceremony. 50 trees, including a step tree, avocado pear, local pear, shawanshop, pepper fruit among others were planted.

The Foundation also appointed Green Energy Ambassadors tasked with nurturing the young saplings. This practical initiative not only contributes to environmental restoration but also instills a sense of responsibility and stewardship in the students.

Engr. Chief Chukwuemeka Chukwurah Green Energy Foundation (ECCCGEF) was Founded by Engr Chris C. Chukwurah, a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers, FNSE and a Former Chairman of NSE Branch. The foundation’s strategic plan includes training young engineers, technologists, and technicians to meet the demands of this emerging industry.
